Last week, I reported on the case of a woman named Kristi in Sparks who was attacked by a neighbor's dog. (Read the original post here.) In the attack, her arm was bitten by the neighbor's dog, who was identified by animal control as a boxer mix. Also, one of her dogs was killed (the one who died is seen in the other photo), and another one suffered fractures and a punctured lung. I spoke with Mark, whose doorstep Kristi ended up on, screaming for help. Here are some updates from Mark:

Haven't had a chance to visit Kristi, she's at home recovering from a skin graft surgery and has two more days of immobilization to give her the best chance of healing. As a diabetic, healing is much more critical and challenging. ...We will be circulating fliers in the neighborhood this weekend including the [dog owner's] address (per city attorney Chet Adams) in the hopes of applying pressure to both the owner and the county. Finally got a response from Katy Simon at Washoe County who said animal control can't impound the dog until the hearing and I suggested they change that rule so neighborhoods can be safer. Said she'd check with Bob Larkin to see if he has a desire to initiate such a change. And here is a request that Mark emailed out to neighbors:

There is a public hearing at the Sparks Municipal Court on March 24th at 1:30 pm to determine the fate of this dog. As a fellow citizen and neighbor, please consider attending this hearing so your voice can be heard. Without public pressure this dog may be allowed to stay at home in our neighborhood. If you cannot attend, please email to us your letter of concern with your name and address and we will present it at the hearing. Please also consider warning all of your friends and neighbors of this dangerous animal. If it killed once, it can certainly escape and kill again.
