Infant boy killed in dog attack near Perkins identified

PERKINS — The name of an infant who was fatally attacked by a dog south of Perkins was released Tuesday by the state Medical Examiner’s office.
Justin Lopez, who was 8 months old, died of blunt force trauma to the head, medical examiner’s spokeswoman Cherokee Ballard said.
Firefighters responded to a call that a child had been attacked by a dog about 11:20 a.m. Monday. The infant died at the scene, Stillwater fire Battalion Chief Rick Hauf said.
The incident occurred on Iowa Tribe land south of Perkins. A spokeswoman said Monday the tribe would have no comment.
